Indications:
The short-term treatment of insomnia in adults in situations where the insomnia is debilitating or is causing severe distress for the patient.
Dosage and Administration:
Insomnia:
Short-Term Treatment of Insomnia Characterized by Difficulties with Sleep Initiation:
Initial: 5mg (women), and either 5mg or 10mg (men), taken qhs with at least 7-8 hrs remaining before the planned time of awakening.
Titrate: May increase to 10mg if the 5mg dose is not effective
Max: 10mg qhs
DOSING CONSIDERATIONS:
Concomitant Medications;
CNS Depressants: May need to adjust dose of zolpidem and concomitant CNS depressant
Hepatic Impairment:
5mg qhs
Elderly:
Elderly/Debilitated: 5mg qhs
Contraindication:
Hypersensitivity to zolpidem tartrate or any of the inactive ingredients Obstructive sleep apnoea, Myasthenia gravis Severe hepatic insufficiency Acute and/or severe respiratory depression Children or patients with psychotic illness.
